Fieldnote 005: The Spacetime Manifold & Causal Sets
Log Entry: The Crucible of Rigor
Hoffman’s conscious agents operate outside of spacetime, viewing it merely as a “data structure.” But how does that data structure actually emerge? We realized we could not just hand-wave Einstein’s equations.
By leveraging discrete Causal Set Theory, we constructed a volume-penalized partition function. We explicitly calculated the mean-field topological temperature ($\beta_c$) required to suppress non-manifold “Kleitman-Rothschild” orders. The realization here is that spacetime is not a given—it is a thermodynamic phase transition. Lorentz invariance emerges strictly because it is entropically stabilized.
